Five of the Best Things to do in Venice for Spring

There’s no time like spring-time, as that age-old-adage goes. However, spring in Venice is unlike anything else. There is something about Venice that feels magical, wonderful, dreamlike even. Perhaps this is why it remains one of the largest tourist destinations globally. The magic truly is in the air, as they say.

There is a lot to do in Venice, though. From sites to see, to markets to shop, and of course all sorts of lip-wetting, tongue salivating, food to try. It can be a lot to take in, and even more to do on your feet. As such, it would be a shame to have to worry about where to keep your luggage when visiting Venice. No matter if you’re shopping the markets and want an empty suitcase in walking distance, or you’re simply stopping through town for a day trip, there is easy and convenient luggage storage in Venice all throughout the town.

Half-Day Island Tour

This is one of the best and easiest ways to get a feel for all three of the major islands in the venetian region. Murano, Burano, and Torcello. On this half-day tour, visitors can depart in the morning or the afternoon and take a trip by motor-boat to these three very distinct, living, and culturally stunning islands.

By the end of the trip, the half-day won’t have felt like enough time, but don’t worry you’ll come out of it with plenty of highlights from the trip. For example, you’ll have the chance to see live glass-blowing in Murano, bear witness to glorious ancient churches on Torcello, and browse luxury silks on Burano. This half-day island tour hits the three major islands in the region, and leaves visitors with a bounty of treasured memories.

Get on a Gondola Ride

Perhaps one of the most staple adventures one can take in Venice. If you’re spending any time there at all, a Gondola ride seems like more than a rite of passage. It’s something that simply everyone must do if they step foot in Venice. This is especially the case for couples and young lovers as these rides are perfect romantic stimulants. From the gorgeous water, to the brilliant design of the city itself, and of course the private intimacy of sharing such a ride all work together to leave a lasting impression on everyone and anyone.

These rides through the waterways are a life-time experience that will never be forgotten.

Vento Hill Towns Vineyard

While Venice itself is home to plenty, just outside Venice are the gorgeous rolling hills that many vineyards call home. Vento Hill Towns Vineyard is just a short ride out from the limits of Venice and offers visitors a chance to experience something that feels otherworldly completely.

These quaint town roads have a medieval feeling about them that is transportive. On a small group tour, visitors will have a chance to visit a very well conserved Villa Barbaro which was designed by the famous renaissance architect Palladio.

This tour also offers visitors the chance to sample fresh prosecco made right there in the hill town vineyards just outside of Venice.

Doge’s Palace

The Doge was once the ruler of Venice. This was his palace and remains home to some of the most stunning architecture and art that exists. One of the most notable and famous pieces that exist within the palace is the ‘bridge of sighs’.

This piece is essentially a limestone tunnel connecting the palace’s interrogation room with its prison. The title, ‘bridge of sighs’, came from the myth that prisoners would sigh with sadness as they saw Venice for the last time through the windows of the bridge on their way to their cell. Today, the palace still feels slightly eerie, despite being home to so many stunning pieces of work.

The Rialto Market

The rialto market is a must in Venice. This marketplace was born in medieval times and still thrives today five days a week. This is one of the most extravagant and well known fish markets in the mediterranean. This marketplace actually has such a fierce reputation that there are strict rules on the size of fish that are sellable.

Fish aren’t the only thing in supply at the market, however, right next door is an open air produce market, making for some of the freshest home cooking around.

Making the Most of Venice

Venice is a densely packed cultural center of the world that offers a wide variety of things for visitors and citizens to do, alike. Whether you’re going to spend a few weeks exploring the gorgeous and historical depths of Venice, or you’re just passing through for a day, there’s something for everyone. No matter if you’re looking for an adventure through the Venetian islands, or want to spend your days browsing markets and shopping centers, or even still – tasting the wines of the land, Venice truly has it all.
